Acrylic Processing Aids are among the most essential additives in rigid PVC formulations, playing a key role in improving fusion, enhancing melt stability, and upgrading surface quality. Their performance strongly depends on molecular design and molecular weight. Certain grades accelerate fusion by reducing fusion time and temperature while promoting uniform gelation. General-purpose grades, on the other hand, establish a balance between fusion speed, stable rheology, and smooth surface appearance, making them the most widely used choice in the production of pipes, fittings, profiles, and rigid sheets. Lubricating grades (such as K175) function by lowering melt friction against metal surfaces and improving flowability, although they have limited impact on fusion.
At the high molecular weight end, Foam Regulator grades significantly increase melt strength. In foamed PVC products, they control cell growth and distribution, preventing coalescence or collapse of bubbles, thereby ensuring a uniform structure with stable density and excellent surface finish. Owing to these unique properties, acrylic processing aids have become strategic additives with a distinguished role across various PVC applications, including pipes and fittings, window profiles, rigid sheets, transparent films, and foamed boards.
